As Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Nanyang Polytechnic, Mr Lin Cheng Ton plays a key role in building and nurturing a harmonious relationship between staff and union leaders in the school.

This relationship is further enhanced through regular dialogue and an annual union-management team interaction and developmental programme. This has been organised in the past five years. Mr Lin has always made it a point to host lunch receptions and spend time with union leaders and his management team after each developmental programme.

He acknowledges the contributions and teamwork of all union members in every staff development initiative, in particular, recognising the NYP Staff Branch Union Officials as important strategic partners in his school’s quality journey toward organisational excellence.

Mr Lin believes in people development and provides continuous financial support and learning opportunities for his staff, ensuring that they are up-to-date with skills for their jobs. He also readily releases union members for trade union programmes, always with unrecorded leave. He readily supported and encouraged the idea of the NYP Staff Branch Union setting up a webpage on the polytechnic’s intranet and subsequently, putting it on the Internet.

In recognition of his efforts to enhance and enrich the lives of his employees, the National Trades Union Congress is pleased to present the Medal of Commendation to Mr Lin Cheng Ton.
