Nanyang Polytechnic signed the first Collective_Agreement_(CA) with the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) on 13 Mar 1997. The signatories were PCEO Mr Lin Cheng Ton and Mr Paul Tan, General Secretary of AUPE.

The CA, entitled "Nanyang Polytechnic Non-Academic Staff Agreement 1997" takes efffect from 1 Feb 97 and shall remain in force for 3 years.

The agreement covers all Division II to IV grades of staff and Technical Officers grades I to II except those holding confidential positions.

The CA includes provisions on probational period, salary scales, annual increments, leave matters, medical benefits, festive advance and personal loans.

An important feature of the CA is the establishment of a Joint Industrial Relations Committee. The Committee will serve to utilise the ideas and experiences of staff to give them greater share in determining and observing their working conditions. It will also serve as the platform to discuss HR issues, suggestions for work improvement and staff welfare.
