AUPE HQ officials joined the Nanyang Polytechnic ( NYP ) Management
staff
and the Branch Committee at their Ang Mo Kio campus on
1 Dec 1999 to launch
the Branch's Homepage on the Internet . It was also
to celebrate its first
anniversary with members .
 The
NYP Staff Branch had launched its Homepage on the Polytechnic's intranet
last year to reach out to its members on line. One year later , with the
strong support and approval from Management, the Homepage has found its
way on to the Internet. This speaks volumes of the trust and healthy labour
- management relationship that exists between the Union and NYP.
During their short addresses, both Mr Boo Kheng Hua , DeputyPrincipal
of NYP,
and Comrade Paul Tan , General Secretary of AUPE, expressed
the desire
for an even closer and stronger relationship in the future.
Comrade Tan
thanked Management for its proactive role in and support
rendered towards
the Branch. He complimented the Committee Members
who had volunteered
their time and effort to promote the Union's activities
to members and
set up the homepage .
Mr Boo touched on the roles that both the Union and Management can play
in the context of " A Thinking Worker , A Learning Public Service
", one of
the objectives of the Third Public Sector Union and Management
Gathering
held in October this year.

The Branch Chairman and Secretary presented appreciation
plaques to both Comrade Paul Tan and Mr Lin Cheng Ton, Principal and
Chief executive
Officer of NYP . Guest were " taken " through
the new pages on the
Homepage , which is currently the pride of the Branch
.With its interactive
and user-friendly features , members and the public
can retrieve information
on the Union with ease . A video clip on the
Polytechnic's courses and programmes marked the end of the presentation
ceremony.
Management staff , Union officials and members of
the Branch mingled at
a tea reception hosted by the NYP management.

AUPE
would like to thank the NYP management for its warm hospitality, assistance
and support towards the Branch Committee in making the
celebration a success.
