MISCELLANEOUS
What happens to my notebook if I do not graduate from NYP?
The NYP Notebook Scheme is an initiative to allow NYP to fully
make use of IT for teaching, learning and research.
It covers a rich source of
IT-based teaching and learning resources.
The NYP Notebook Scheme is a scheme to allow full-time NYP students to use well-equipped notebook computers that will enable our students to learn, interact and access real world resources at any time and any place.
The driving force behind the need of universal access to information may be found in:
Which students are involved in this scheme?
This scheme will involve ONLY new year one students for the Academic Year 2008/2009.
No. However, NEW Year One students are strongly encouraged to participate in this scheme.
This scheme encourages you to own a notebook computer to enable you to log-in and access the NYP wireless network resources.
Are there any advantages being on this scheme?
With a notebook, you will not have to queue for PCs in the computer labs and you can surf and access Internet resources at any time and any place using the wireless hotspots located all over campus. Since the notebook belongs to you, you can use it as an education, communication and entertainment tool.
Eventually, more and more study materials will be made online and it will become essential that you have immediate access to a computer to access your courses, tutorials and assignments electronically.
What happens if I already have a notebook or intend to purchase my own?
You can still participate in this project.
What about the desktop PCs in the student computer labs?
The student computer labs will still remain. However, if you own your own notebook, you will not have to queue for PCs and will have the flexibility to install your own software, surf the Internet, etc.
I have a desktop PC at home. Do I have to participate?
We strongly recommend that you seriously consider getting a notebook for use on campus to access the learning materials.
NOTEBOOK OWNERSHIP

counterparts.
They are comparable in weight and size to many of the textbook
students carry.
They offer colour, sound and large storage capacity (80 GB or

With portability, students can have 24-hour access to the campus wireless network.
