Hospitality & Resort Management

Introduction

The Hospitality & Tourism industry is a key sector of Singapore’s economy. By 2015, as much as $30 billion in tourism expenditure is expected from 17 million visitors to the country*. A significant proportion of that expenditure is expected to occur at Singapore’s hotels and the Integrated Resorts, resulting in thousands of job opportunities for professionally trained executives. Having staff with the right skills and knowledge would thus be critical for the sustainability and growth of such businesses.

NYP’s three-year Diploma in Hotel & Tourism Management is geared towards training and grooming hotel or resort managers of the future. Subjects like economics, marketing, accounting, business law and statistics within the curriculum ensure that all students in the programme possess a good “business knowledge” foundation. A strong foundation in Hospitality & Tourism will be developed through “core” tourism subjects like Managing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) and Hotel Business Management.

Students can choose to specialise in any one of the following options :

  • Hotel Management
  • Resort Management.

Besides a conventional classroom learning environment, students in the programme will be provided ample opportunities for hands-on learning to build confidence and competence in handling hotel or resort operations. They would have the opportunity to be trained in simulated hospitality environments on campus, and subsequently undergo industrial attachment at leading hotels, resorts and other related tourism businesses in Singapore and overseas.

As Singapore’s stature grows as a global tourism destination, the demand for well-trained hotel and resort professionals is on the rise. NYP’s Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management ensures that individuals are well equipped with the relevant and necessary abilities to enter and succeed in this dynamic and challenging industry.
