There has been a robust double-digit annualised growth rate in total assets under management ("AUM") over the last six years. The assets managed by Singapore-based asset managers grew by 24% to reach S$891 billion (approximately US$581 billion) as at end-2006, compared to S$720 billion as at end-2005
From 2005 to 2006, the number of fund managers and other investment professionals based in Singapore has increased by 23%. Coupled with its emergence as being the wealth management capital of Asia, Singapore is also fast becoming a growing centre for the hedge fund industry with many hedge fund managers choosing to base their operations here. In order for Singapore to develop effectively as a global financial hub, supporting services are constantly being relocated into Singapore. As such, fund administration and other related services are expected to be in great demand.
