The retail sector is a vital part of a country's economy.
In Singapore, it is one of the largest industries in terms
of both the number of establishments and employees. With the
increased tourism arrivals and the completion of Integrated
Resorts (IRs) in 2010, the retail sector is expected to grow
further. Growth in the regional areas and emerging markets
also present many opportunities beyond this island. Globalization,
changing consumer needs, retail concentration and technology
has created a critical need for retail professionals who are
kept current on the trends and issues in global arena and
are competent to address the specialised needs of the industry.
The 300-hour programme is intended to provide a good understanding
of retail management and contemporary issues in retail marketing
and development. Participants will apply their knowledge and
analytical skills learnt in their workplace through project
work and assignments. The programme will adopt a case-study
approach to encourage discussions and enhance participants'
understanding of key issues in retailing.
The proposed Specialist Diploma aims to provide Polytechnic
Diploma graduates more upgrading options and opportunities.
This will help to meet the growing and diverse manpower needs
of the retail sector in Singapore.
This course qualifies for the Ministry of Education (MOE)
subsidies.
