The School of Chemical and Life Sciences offer:

(1) Restructured Curriculum
A revamped curriculum is introduced this year in April 2010 with lesser hours while maintaining the quality of our course. With more hours free, you can choose to take up extra courses that enable you to earn certificates on top of your diploma course! With the infusion of nutrition concepts, the Diploma in Food Science is renamed the Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition with effect from this year.

(2) Exciting Specialisations
The Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences is the only one in Singapore that offers a Clinical Trials specialisation. For the Diploma in Molecular Biotechnology, we have introduced new specialisation in Biomedical Sciences on top of the current specialisations in Research and Development and Biomanufacturing. Exciting modules such as Forensics are also introduced this year.

(3) Understanding the $$$ of Life Sciences
All our life science courses have business modules built in, such as business management and marketing, to give you a deeper understanding of the business of life sciences.

(4) Chance to Work on Real Life Projects
Our unique "teaching factory" concept brings the industry into the school so that you can get to apply your knowledge to real life problems even before your final year attachment. Molecular biotechnology students get attachments to our bioinnovation centre and work with in-house companies. Food science students can look foward to develop interesting products in our brand new Food Pilot Plant. Pharmaceutical sciences students have a teaching drug store and a pharmaceutical training centre all located within NYP.

(5) Attachment to Local and Overseas Places
You can be expected to be attached to local companies for 6 months! Molecular biotechnology students under the Biomedical Sciences specialisation can expect hospital attachments of up to 1 year! You can also look forward to exciting oversaes attachment places in Australia, Scotland, Japan, Korea, Thailand, China and more.

(6) Innovative Teaching
Our lecturers employ innovative teaching methods including the use of movies and games during classes. Teaching is also not limited to the classroom but include blogs, wikis, Facebook and field trips outside the classroom. Where opportunity arises, overseas study trips are organised for you to Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand and other destinations.

(7) All Round Development
With the introduction of General Studies module in 2010, you can expect to pick up knowledge and skills outside of your domain such as foreign languages, computer animation and photography. With your good O level results, we invite you to apply for the NYP scholarship which will include a talent development programme with opportunities for special workshops and dialogue sessions with ministers.

(8) Headstart for Further Studies
A good proportion of our graduates go on to further their studies in local and overseas universities. For example, we have Pharmaceutical Sciences graduates (previously Pharmceutical and Clinical Trials Track under Diploma in Molecular Biotechnology) accepted for undergraduate studies in NUS Pharmacy School for the past 3 years. We also offer a through-train programme to a Masters degree for our Molecular Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduates through our MOU with Griffith University in Australia.

(9) Higher Starting Salaries
Our graduates in life sciences are ranked the highest for the past few years in terms of % employment and starting salaries as compared to graduates from other polytechnics. We are top again in the Graduate Employment Survey (GES) results released in 2009.

(10) Caring and Nurturing Lecturers
Our lecturers and students maintain a close and friendly relationship with regular mentor-meet-mentees sessions as well as participation in staff-student events such as SCL Day, national day celebrations, captain's ball and dodge ball competitions.
