Areas of Specialisation
One key focus of CEC is the development of intelligent autonomous mobile robots. These robots are designed and programmed to perform tasks of object detection, tracking and handling. Examples of these are the soccer playing robot and the object searching, picking and disposal robot. These robots participate in the annual Singapore Robotic Games. The soccer robot team has been the World Champion in the Federation of International Robot-Soccer Association (FIRA) MiroSot competitions for 4 years since 2003.

Project Information
Microarray slides are used to profile gene expressions, identify cancer genes, classify tumors and cancer, clone genes, and discover therapeutic molecules.
The low cost and effective system developed compensates for imperfections in cDNA microarray slides such as scale, rotation and print-tip differences. The scope of the project includes vision algorithm development and automated system design and integration. The key technologies developed in this project are the novel image detection and classification algorithms, and the novel inspection and classification system, which have received patent granted by Singapore in 2006, and by both US and UK in 2007.
