Background
The NYP-Cisco Internet Protocol Convergence Lab (IPCL) is a joint collaboration between NYP and Cisco Systems. The IPCL was set up in November 2001 with the aim of establishing a development hub to accelerate and drive technology transfer in the area of IP convergence technologies. In line with NYP's mission to support the industry, the IPCL designs and develops innovative solutions for the converged network to meet the business needs of organisations as well as provides specialist training programme for the infocomm industry.

Areas of Specialisation
The team at the NYP-Cisco IPCL possesses extensive solution development experience in various infocomm application domains such as intelligent enterprise, process and workflow re-engineering, unified communications (UC) as well as presence and mobility solutions.

Project Information
Major projects commissioned by the IPCL include:
- Enterprise Productivity Services deployed on IP phones -
a suite of IP phone services that integrate enterprise workflow. Examples are intelligent meeting room tracker, corporate directory services, real time financial information access and two-way SMS messaging services between IP phone and mobile handsets.
- Unified Communications (UC) Integrated Tele-Radiology System - to achieve full integration of a digital radiology system with real time communications and collaborations features for a healthcare professional team working in different physical locations.
- Intelligent Building Management and Control System - to achieve building management and control through integration of embedded IP-enabled device controllers with IP phones and wireless PDAs.
- Infocomm Touch Panel - a voice-over-IP (VoIP) capable intelligent infocomm terminal that converges public phone call, SMS, video mail, e-Postcard and personal tag in a single touch screen panel.
