Project Information

Some examples of projects undertaken recently include the following:

Advanced Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) System

The objective of this project is to develop an advanced PCA system to manage the operations of an infusion pump to allow for intelligent patient-controlled delivery of analgesics for pain relief. This innovative system provides patient relief round the clock without the need to wait for medical personnel to be present. The ability to control the analgesic infusion profiles also reduces the overall medication needed to control patient pain. Studies have shown that this result in faster recovery for the patients.

Digital Auditory Integration Training System (DAITS)

Research has shown that distortions in hearing or auditory processing contribute to behavioural or learning disorders.  The Digital Auditory Integration Training System is designed to normalize hearing and the ways in which the brain processes auditory information.  Using the system, trainees listen to electronically processed music during therapy lasting several sessions to improve their attention and focus.  Results have show that the system is able to significantly able to enhance the potential of children and adults with autism spectrum disorders, central auditory processing disorders (CAPD), speech and language.  The system improves on many aspects of everyday life for such individuals including learning ability, social interaction, speech/language development and learning.
