NCSS Sponsorship of Diploma in
Social Sciences (Social Work) Students
SHS’s first batch of 26 Diploma in Social Sciences (Social Work) students received a boost with a new sponsorship scheme called the Social Work Associate Training Sponsorship. This sponsorship scheme, introduced by the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) with the support of the Ministry for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCDYS), covers tuition fees, other compulsory fees and an allowance for books and reference materials for the three years of study.
The ten students who have been offered the sponsorships were presented with their sponsorships by Ms Ang Bee Lian, CEO of NCSS, during a presentation ceremony on 20 July 2010 at SHS.

WorldSkills 2009 Gold Award

Carolyn Choo and Adeline Mah
(Diploma in Nursing students)
Juggling lessons, projects, hospital shifts, as well as WorldSkills training, was no easy feat for Carolyn and Adeline. In fact, their NYP exams ended just before they packed their bags to leave for Calgary. For this chirpy duo, their months of intense training paid off, when they won a gold medal in the 40th World Skills Competition (the Olympics of Skills) in Calgary, Canada. This is the , since the skill area was introduced in 2007.

SingHealth and National Health Group’s Sponsorship of Overseas Clinical Attachments
SHS students who were sponsored by the SingHealth and National Health cluster received a further boost when their overseas clinical attachment were also funded by their sponsor. A total of 20 Year 3 Nursing students received financial support for their clinical placements to renowned overseas universities and medical hospitals in countries like United States of America, Germany, United Kingdom, Japan and Australia. The SingHealth sponsorship presentation was held during the SingHealth Nurses’ Day celebrations on 1 Aug 2008.

Dr Della Lee Nursing Bursary Award
A total of 12 SHS students were awarded the Della Lee Nursing Bursary. Offered to deserving Year 2 Nursing students, this award offers a quantum of $4,000 for the course of study. The award presentation was held during the SingHealth Nurses’ Day celebrations on 1 Aug 2008.
