Since 1992, Nanyang Polytechnic has been THE place to groom and develop people for careers in Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography and Radiation Therapy.

Besides these Diploma courses, Advanced and Specialist Diploma courses are also offered to train health care professionals to provide the most effective and specialist care services in various disciplines. These health care professionals work in hospitals, clinics, school dental clinics, dental centres, laboratories, rehabilitation centres, community health agencies and other health related settings. In view of the continuing growth and expansion of the health care industry in Singapore, graduates from SHS are poised to play major roles in this very dynamic industry.

SHS is recognised nationally and regionally through the recruitment of well-qualified and highly experienced clinicians and lecturers who are specialists in their respective fields of expertise. Leading academics and practitioners in Singapore also regularly lecture as guest speakers at SHS. In addition, SHS has strong links with many professional and public bodies throughout Singapore and the region; this helps to ensure that education and training provided at the School is relevant and at the cutting edge. Today, the School boasts a proud alumni of more than 8,000 graduates, many of whom are practising health care professionals in their respective disciplines, both in Singapore and overseas.

At SHS, students enjoy a stimulating inter- and multi-professional learning environment using innovative teaching methods with a focus on self-directed, life-long learning, which is pivotal from the day students enter the School and throughout their professional careers. Studying in a multi-disciplinary health science setting like SHS means that our students are trained to work together as part of effective health care teams to provide the finest patient care.

With effect from 17 August 2007, the School of Health Sciences has been reorganised as School of Health Sciences (Nursing) and School of Health Sciences (Allied Health). All programmes in Nursing will come under SHS(N), while programmes in Dental Hygiene and Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Diagnostic Radiography and Radiation Therapy will come under SHS(AH). This reorganisation will enable SHS(N) and SHS(AH) to be more strategic in its focus and better positioned to meet the emerging challenges and opportunities in the health and community services sector.
