IT1561     Computing Mathematics 1     [60 hours]

This module teaches the fundamentals of Computing Mathematics and forms the foundation for more advanced mathematics topics. The topics covered include Number System, Set Theory and Logic, Relation and Function, Algebra, Trigonometry and Matrices.

IT1566    Business Processes and Information Systems
                [60 hours]

This module introduces processes across different business functions within and beyond organizations and their impact to overall business strategy. It will also cover how information systems and IT technologies can be implemented to manage business processes to improve overall business performance and adapt to constant business changes. Case studies will be discussed to help students appreciate these concepts. .

IT1564     Web Applications Development     [60 hours]

This module introduces the basic concepts of the Internet and Internet architecture. The module also covers the Internet services, web page design and markup languages, Internet scripting languages, Ajax and Java Applet for the creation of interactive web applications.

IT1565     Essentials of Marketing     [60 hours]

This module provides an overview of the fundamentals of marketing and marketing mix. It includes marketing management concepts and differences between consumer and business markets, and the integration of product, price, place and promotion in producing an effective marketing plan.

IT1568     Web Applications Project      [90 hours]

This module provides the students with the practical experience of applying their knowledge gained in Web Applications Development module. The students, working in teams, will make use of web-based development tools and technologies to develop, test and implement innovative and useful web applications.

IT1571     Computing Mathematics 2     [60 hours]

This module covers basic statistical concepts and applications. Topics include permutation and combination, probability theory, probability distribution, estimation, hypothesis testing, least square method, simple linear regression and correlation.

IT1572     Applications Usability Design     [60 hours]

This module presents the concepts and techniques for developing usable human-computer interfaces which permit the user to find what he or she wants, find it quickly and carry out any interaction effectively and efficiently. The usability concept will be illustrated in depth by using extensive design samples. The usability design will be practised and articulated during critic sessions.

IT1573     Software Engineering Practices     [60 hours]

This module presents the concepts and methodologies to construct robust software systems and to better manage software project. It covers Unified Process which guides the developers with techniques, tools, models and best practices throughout the development lifecycle. Students will also be exposed the use of Unified Modeling Language to facilitate analysis and design of projects, as well as project management to ensure a successful delivery of software projects.

IT1574     Interactive Media & Web Design     [60 hours]

This module teaches students how to design and develop web-based interactive media applications using web authoring tools with focus on web interactivity and incorporating Rich Internet Applications (RIA). Students will be equipped with skills to design and author interactive content for unique, engaging websites and creative presentations. Other skills include incorporating basic database and optimisation of multimedia assets for web delivery, web services, and generating dynamic content from web services.

IT1575     Communication Skills 1      [30 hours]

This module equips students with essential skills in basic communications. Topics covered include elements of the communication process, barriers to communications, effective writing skills, report writing and oral presentation skills. These topics will complement other modules in the diploma course.

IT1576    Object Oriented Programming     [60 hours]

This module is designed to teach students the concepts of the object-oriented programming, including abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance and polymorphism. Students will learn how to implement these concepts in Java through hands-on practical. Java Swing and Java Applets will be taught to demonstrate how object-orientation is inherent in the language itself.

IT1577    Law and Ethics of IT     [30 hours]

This module aims to provide students with an awareness of the ethics and law of IT. It covers issues like intellectual property rights protection and infringement, copyright and plagiarism, software piracy, computer crimes, internet fraud, objectionable materials, confidentiality in the information age. Singapore’s Copyright Law, Computer Misuse Act and Electronic Transaction Act will also be covered at an awareness level.

IT1578     Interactive Web Design Project     [90 hours]

This module provides the students with the practical experience of applying their knowledge gained in the Applications Usability Design and the Interactive Media & Web Design modules. The students, working in groups, will make use of interactive Web design and development tools to design, develop, test and implement interactive websites.

IT2561     Business Process Modelling & Simulation      [60 hours]

This module presents the concepts and techniques to design and model the business processes, as well as methodologies required to execute a methodical approach to translate business change requirements into IT solutions. Students will be equipped with a set of useful software tools for the modelling of business processes to perform simulation, analysis and optimisation to achieve business objectives.

IT2563     Java Applications Development      [60 hours]

This module covers Java technologies that are required to develop an enterprise Java application. Topics include development of light-weight server-side programs with Servlets, dynamic web application development using Java Server Pages (JSP), development of Enterprise Java business component (Enterprise Beans) with session and entity beans, introduction to enterprise best practices and patterns for Java enterprise application design, introduction to Open Source Servlet Framework, and the use of XML in Java.

IT2564     Database Management Systems     [60 hours]

This module covers the components of a database system together with its database management system from a relational model perspective. It also covers data modeling and design of a relational database, as well as SQL in data definition and data manipulation. The module also introduces the concept of data and database administration and transaction management.

IT2565     Communication Skills 2      [30 hours]

This module equips students with essential skills in negotiation, notes-taking, preparation of visual aids, designing questionnaires, conducting surveys and essential information gathering techniques needed in other modules in the diploma course.

IT2566     Business Intelligence & Analytics     [60 hours]

This module introduces the concept and technologies such as Extract, Transform and Load, Data Warehouse, OLAP, Data Mining and Web Mining related to Business Intelligence. The students will be exposed to the use of Business Intelligence software tools to acquire, cleanse, enhance, and transform data into useful information for analysis and better business decision making.

IT2568     Java Applications Project     [90 hours]

This module provides the students with the practical experience of applying their knowledge gained in the Java Applications Development and the Database Systems modules. The students will apply the Object-Oriented programming and database concepts to develop, test and implement software application systems using Java technology.

IT2571     Enterprise Solutions for Business     [60 hours]

This module introduces students to the enterprise concepts and covers the specifications of enterprise systems, and activities of a business organisation from materials acquisition to delivery of finished products, focuses on various important aspects of integrated information management and its application. Students will have hands-on experience on the application of enterprise resource planning solutions, an integrated multi-module software tool that enables businesses to perform various operational functions.

IT2573     Web Services Applications      [60 hours]

This module teaches students the underlying mechanism of client-server architecture and general understanding of Internet architecture and development of applications for the Internet. Students will be trained using .NET technologies to develop web-based database applications. Web services standards will be covered, which include Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL). There will also be illustrations on how the use of such protocols makes web services platform, language and vendor independent and an ideal candidate for use in enterprise solutions.

IT2574     Network Technology      [60 hours]

This module is designed to provide a broad understanding of network technology. Topics covered include basic networking concepts, the OSI Reference Model, network topologies, Local Area Network standards and protocols such as Ethernet, Token Ring & FDDI, Wide Area Network protocols such as Frame Relay, ATM, the various internetworking devices and also Virtual LAN. This module also focuses on the various TCP/IP protocols and applications which are the underlying technologies for the Internet. Network design and case studies will be introduced to illustrate connectivity among LAN segments to WAN through service provider networks using TCP/IP and Ethernet as core technologies.

IT2575     Principles of Accounting & Finance     [60 hours]

This module provides a basic understanding of accounting principles and concepts used in managing the finances of a business. Topics covered include accounting for asset and liabilities, measurement of profits, budgeting and forecasting, time value of money, capital investment decisions, and equity & debt financing.

This module provides an insight into the latest developments in the field of IT service management. It enables students to apply various methodologies regarding to planning, support, delivery and management of quality IT services. It covers concepts, terms, definitions, objectives, benefits and relationships within core IT service management processes and functions according to best practices framework.

IT2578     Enterprise Solutions Project     [90 hours]

This module provides the students with the practical experience of applying their knowledge gained in the Web Services Applications and the Enterprise Solutions for Business modules. The students, working in teams, will learn to enhance, test and deploy enterprise solutions to fulfill  business needs.

IT3561     IT Security & Business Continuity     [60 hours]

This module provides the fundamental knowledge required for Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery Planning, as well as the skills required to implement security measures to protect computer and network systems. The coverage includes understanding cryptography, payment system, client security, operating system security, web server security, network protocols, firewall, virtual private network, intrusion detection system, computer viruses, and Internet attacks.

IT3563     IT implementation for Finance      [60 hours]

In this module, students will be exposed to key financial activities like accounting, financial analytics, financial supply chain, and corporate governance. Students will be given the opportunity to experience the implementation of financial management solution to deliver integrated business processes in the area of finance, accounting, financial reporting, and performance management.

IT3564     IT in Corporate Governance     [30 hours]

This module introduces the different aspects of corporate governance, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on new practices involving corporate governance and financial reporting, and covers processes of achieving business excellence through process measurement methodology. It focuses on how IT activities like information processing and effectiveness of automated controls and automated accounting processes can be managed and controlled to ensure auditable business processes, financial transparency, and operational control in compliance with regulatory mandates.

This module consolidates the knowledge learnt in the various enterprise solutions modules to research and deploy the use of IT in developing and implementing enterprise solutions and services.

IT3571     Final Year Project     [12 weeks]

The Final Year Project module gives students the practical experience of carrying out a software development project from project requirements, implementation, testing to delivery and presentation of the software. The students will go through a software process with deliverables at different stages of the process. The projects often require students to learn and apply new technologies and software tools that are beyond the boundary of the course curriculum. This will inculcate independent and life-long learning. The engagement of industry projects provides an added dimension for students to think market place, appreciate windows of opportunity and see things from the eyes of the customers, while concurrently subjected to the real-life requirements of quality, cost-effectiveness and time-to-market. The students will have the opportunity to put project management into good practice.

IT3572     Industrial Placement Programme     [12 weeks]

As part of a 12-week industrial attachment, students will be assigned a real-life project in an organisation that would require them to integrate and apply their skills in e-Commerce or other IT-related solutions for relevant industry and business sectors. Students are expected to produce working IT solutions or business plans for the appointed organisation and present their submitted systems from which they shall be assessed. Students may also be placed overseas for their industrial attachment.

IT3573     Overseas Placement Programme      [24 weeks]

The Overseas Placement Programme provides an opportunity for students to gain real-life international work experience and obtain first-hand insights into business environment as well as the social, economical and technological development of other countries. Students will explore, apply and integrate various business concepts, IT skills and technologies in project undertaking. The overseas exposure will have an added dimension in nurturing global mindset and international outlook of the students. The immersion in a foreign workplace and culture will strength the students’ life skills such as adaptability, initiative, independence and interpersonal skills.

IT3581     IT implementation for Human Capital Management
                [60 hours]

In this module, students will be exposed to key human capital management activities like talent management, workforce process management, workforce deployment and workforce analytics. Students will be given the opportunity to experience the implementation of enterprise solution to automate human capital management and to streamline & integrate workforce processes.

                [60 hours]

In this module, students will be exposed to key operations activities like operation analytics, procurement & logistics execution, product development & manufacturing, and sales & services. Students will be given the opportunity to experience the implementation of enterprise solution to automate and streamline procurement & logistics execution, product planning & development, and sales order management.

In this module, students will be exposed to key corporate services activities administrative processes that are standard for most businesses. Students will be given the opportunity to experience the implementation of enterprise solution for real estate management, project portfolio management, travel management and quality management.

IT3584     Strategic Planning for IT and Business     [60 hours]

This module is designed to provide students with an overall understanding of the strategic role of IT and the strategic planning and management of them within the business organisation. The emphasis is on student awareness of the range of established strategic analysis and planning tools, and how they can be applied. It also covers corporate strategy and alignment of technology-based solutions resulting in the strategic use of IT.

IT3585     IT Innovation Management     [60 hours]

This module exposes students to the management of intellectual property, covering relevant legal concepts and management of organisational knowledge to build a manageable, defensible, and cost-effective intellectual property portfolio. It also covers organisational design for the management of IT innovation, the management of complexity, ambiguity, and risk. The students will also learn how to go about commercialising new technology.

IT3586     Advanced Database      [60 hours]

This module introduces students to advanced topics in relational database systems pertaining to fine tuning, optimization, database integrity and conformity of implementation to idealised model. It covers advanced database technologies like distributed databases, data warehousing, data mining and XML databases.

IT3587    Database Administration     [60 hours]

This module introduces database administration concepts which include the installation and the maintenance of the database.  It covers topics like database architecture, proactive maintenance, performance monitoring, database security, user management, and backup/recovery techniques.
