With guidance from SIDM's Victor Wee, NTUC Assistant Secretary General Ang Hin Kee experiences the Virtual Reality software, while ACI Director Tan Jek Min, Minister Chee Hong Tat and Central Singapore Mayor Denise Phua look on.

Minister of State for the Ministry of Communications & Information and Ministry of Health Chee Hong Tat visited the Asian Culinary Institute (ACI) on March 29. The visit was organised by SkillsFuture Singapore as part of a learning journey for the Training and Adult Education Council.

The visit focussed on the best practices in pedagogical and technological innovations in the food and beverage sector, and how these translate into better experiences for the learners. The entourage also included Mr Ang Hin Kee, Assistant Secretary General of NTUC and Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District.

The guests toured ACI's facilities and viewed how machines and technology can increase efficiency in kitchens. ACI also shared about the successful launch of its blended version of the WSQ Follow F&B Safety and Hygiene Policies and Procedures programme.

There was also a demonstration on how ACI is leveraging on gamification and technology-enabled learning such as virtual reality and augmented reality through a joint-project with the School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM). The project involves final-year students from the Diploma in Digital Game Art & Design and Diploma in Game Development & Technology developing an augmented reality application to simulate a restaurant operation. Another project involves the use of virtual reality to simulate a kitchen environment and how to avoid common kitchen hazards.
