One lucky student from the Diploma in Sport & Wellness Management (DSWM) will benefit from a new scholarship offered by a local fitness group. The scholarship was formalised last week by Loh Chuu Yi, Director of Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Business Management, and Tan Tse Yong, Group CEO of FitLion and GymmBoxx companies and a DSWM graduate from the Class of 2004.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees and comes with a 21-week internship with the group. Upon graduation, the recipient will serve a one-year bond. Applicants will be evaluated not just on their academic grades but aptitude and character as well.

Tse Yong recalls fondly the years he spent in NYP. After his three-year diploma journey, his company operated the NYP staff gym and the experience was significant in his decision to grow his business. One of his companies - FitLion - is a sport supplements e-store that now employs 50 staff and operates out of a 20,000 sq ft warehouse in Changi. Daily online orders have grown to about 250 a day and it raked in revenue exceeding S$10 million last year. Gymmboxx is a gym chain that started with one outlet and has now grown to eight.
