The Nanyang Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra (NYPCO) presented their Chamber Concert - The Origins - on Jan 13 at the Theatre for the Arts. Instead of performing their usual repertoire of Korean and English pop numbers which had garnered them a huge following over the years, the NYPCO decided to return to its roots by playing Chinese orchestra classics such as权御天下 (Quan Yu Tian Xia), 光明行 (Guang Ming Xing), and淘金令 (Tao Jin Ling).

Preparation for this concert was challenging as the members were performing in a smaller ensemble setting. This meant that each musician would have to deliver higher standards and avoid making any mistakes as there were lesser performers on stage to cover and support each other.

The Orchestra also went green this year with the issuance of paperless tickets. Besides the NYP communities, the audience also comprised 75 students from the Chinese Orchestra of Mayflower Secondary School and Greenridge Secondary School.
