NYP engineering students showed that they were clearly a cut above the rest when they became the most bemedalled institution, clinching five golds at the 24th Singapore Robotic Games (SRG). Held from 18-19 Jan at the Science Centre Singapore, SRG was staged in cooperation with IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Singapore Chapter, with local institutions of higher learnings, including NYP, as co-organisers.

Team NYP took part in seven categories and won gold in five of them - Open Category, RC Underwater Competition, Wall Climbing Robot Race, Humanoid Robot Competition and Legged Robot Marathon Race. This is also the first time that NYP has won a gold in the RC Underwater category.

SRG, which started in 1993, was conceived to coordinate all efforts of the academic and research institutions towards advancement in robotics and automation. The Games is patterned like the Olympics but instead robots would participate in events. It is hoped that through the event, the public could see the possibility of robots performing human tasks and get a glimpse into the future generation commercially-available robots.

The diplomas that were involved in this year’s SRG were Digital & Precision Engineering, Engineering with Business, Manufacturing and Mechatronics. You can watch a short clip of the underwater robot here.
