The latest edition of the Singapore Games Creation Competition (SGCC) organised by Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM) kicked off on March 13. Into its 12th edition, the event gives secondary school students the chance to find out more about digital media development and games creation.

For every edition of SGCC, SIDM collaborates with partners to create meaningful themes for the participants to work on. This time round, it worked with the Central Singapore Community Development Council on the theme 'Eco Knights Rises'. Based on this theme, the participants are challenged to rise up as eco knights to save the environment.

SGCC 2017 consists of two stages - the qualifiers and finals. Each team, comprising up to four members, has to submit a game prototype based on the theme. The top 30 teams will enter the finals where they have to submit a full-fledged game and present their works to a panel of judges. The winners will be announced at a prize giving ceremony on Sept 4.

Altogether, 442 students from 33 secondary schools, forming 145 teams, will take part this year. They are now working fast and furious to submit their games before the deadline in late May. You can view the winning games for SGCC 2016 here.
