Welcome to a new academic year. Have you heard? NYP now has a new department - Student Care & Guidance (SCG) which will look after the welfare of ALL NYP students, including International Students.
Therefore, the Office for International Students (OIS) has been subsumed by SCG. Not to worry, Mr Joseph Lee and Ms Lin Shuli will still be in-charge of the welfare of all international students and you can always contact them if you have any problems. Their contact emails and numbers will remain the same (please see last page).
The new SCG will continue to work with the International Friendship Club (IFC) to organise events and recruit participants for inter- polytechnic events. If you are keen to participate in any of these events, join IFC during the Club Crawl on 20 and 21 April 2016.
Student Care & Guidance
Hey guys! My name is Noah and I am the current Vice President of Events for the International Friendship Club (IFC). The IFC President and Vice President for Administration are Soo Kok Shen and Tan Chia Chun respectively. Together, we help promote friendship and harmony between students in NYP.
IFC welcomes all students from different backgrounds to make friends, have fun and learn more about each other’s culture. We also help to develop students’ leadership skills through various organised events. We work hand-in-hand with the Student Care & Guidance (SCG) Department, the Student Development (SD) Department and other NYP clubs to organize major events. We organized IFC Welcoming Party, Bonding Camp, Zero Camp, Singapore Quest Run, Foreign Language Cultural Night, IFC-German Club Baking Sessions etc. to name a few.
“A little closer to home” – this is the slogan we have for ourselves, to provide comfort and warmth to new international students who have left their homes in pursuit of furthering their education. We are here to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on and we will do our very best to help you. You can also join us and make more friends, have fun and at the same time challenge yourself to take on more leadership roles.
So what are you waiting for? Come and be a part of the IFC big family! You can also visit us at the NYP Club Crawl on 20 and 21 April at the NYP Atrium.

The annual Inter-Polytechnic Singapore Quest was held on 23 January 2016 at NYP. A total of 225 polytechnic students from 15 different countries took part in the event.
The Singapore Quest 2016 (previously known as Singapore Challenge) is an “Amazing Race styled” event where participants have to locate various checkpoints based on the clues given to them.
Each team has 5 participants with at least 3 different nationalities, one of whom must be a Singaporean. Participants can also form inter- poly teams.
The participants arrived bright and early in the morning and changed into their colourful t-shirts which reflected their diversity and energy. As they were waited anxiously for their first clue and the flag-off, their spirits were drummed up by the exciting performance from our very own NYP’s Percussion Ensemble. This year, the route took the participants to various checkpoints in Toa Payoh, Balestier and Ang Mo Kio area, where each team had a task to complete.
The first checkpoint was at Toa Payoh Park where participants had to work together to overcome their challenge. The second checkpoint was at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall where participants learnt about the history of Sun Yat Sen.
The third checkpoint was at Ang Mo Kio, Teck Ghee Resident Committee (a community service checkpoint) where participants decorated a food pack and filled it with basic food items to be given to a needy resident. We would like to take this opportunity to thank NYP’s Percussion Ensemble, K-Wave, La Ballroom En Masse and International Friendship Club for the performances and support.
See you next year at SQ 2017!
