It’s official – Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) is now among the top 11 employers in Singapore for 2009 – according to the latest Hewitt Best Employers in Singapore Study.
NYP was conferred this special honour during an award presentation ceremony on 31 March 2009. Mr Chan Lee Mun, Principal & CEO of NYP, received the Hewitt Best Employer in Singapore Award 2009 on behalf of the polytechnic, which is the only education institution in Singapore to receive this accolade.
The Hewitt Best Employers in Singapore Study is organised once every two years. For 2009, more than 50 companies participated in this study, and the top 11 organisations were then selected. Companies were evaluated on various criteria, such as leadership, corporate culture and career opportunities for employees. |

NYP - the employer of choice! |

The Employer of Choice
What makes NYP stand out from other employers? One of the key factors is NYP’s strong emphasis on its people. NYP has a “no shelf life” principle for staff; it provides staff with life-long learning opportunities, to bring out their best talents and potential. Key initiatives like Staff Reprofiling and Careers Unlimited focus on enhancing internal capabilities of staff, and providing them with multiple pathways to grow and develop their careers.

NYP staff will also attest that what makes working in NYP unique is the prevalent sense of family that they feel. It is no wonder, then, that NYP staff stay on to contribute to the polytechnic for many years. In fact, 68% of staff have more than five years of service.
And the statistics from staff are encouraging: in consecutive Staff Opinion Surveys since 2001, 99% of staff affirmed NYP as “the Employer of Choice.” The Hewitt Best Employers 2009 Study also revealed that NYP’s staff engagement score is 75%, against an industry average of below 70%.
This is not the first award NYP has received for its outstanding HR-related systems and policies. In 2005, NYP was the first educational institution to be awarded the prestigious People Excellence Award conferred by SPRING Singapore, the highest accolade given to organisations for people excellence.
