NYP Symphony Orchestra shines at World Music Contest

The NYP Symphony Orchestra recently achieved the Gold Standard at the 16th World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade, Netherlands from 9 July to 2 August 2009.

Held once every four years, the World Music Contest is recognised as the most significant international festival for wind and brass instruments. This year’s event attracted 20,000 musicians from 39 countries worldwide, including prestigious and high-profile bands.

Admission to the competition's respective divisions is through a stringent selection audition process. The competing groups have to each perform a warm-up piece, a choice piece and a set piece by the organisers.

The NYP Symphony Orchestra achieved the Gold Standard with the score of 83.67 in the Harmony Band 1st Division.

The orchestra also took home Gold when it competed in the Harmony Band 2nd Division in 2005.
