Campus TV Channel to Boost
Nanyang Poly Students’ Broadcasting Skills

Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP)‘s Media Studies & Management (MSM) students will gain professional training in broadcast TV management and production, with the launch of NYPTV, the Polytechnic’s first television channel to showcase student production and enhance campus vibrancy.

NYPTV will be a platform to train MSM students from the School of Business Management in all aspects of channel management including branding and promotion, acquisition and scheduling; and programme production.

Mr Chiang Kah Kee, Director of NYP’s School of Business Management, said: “NYPTV adds value to students from our Diploma in Media Studies & Management, and gives them a headstart for a wide range of careers in Broadcast TV. The array of programmes available will also enrich students’ experience in NYP and enhance the vibrancy of campus life.”

‘NYP On Air’ the Channel’s flagship weekly magazine programme is fully produced by MSM students. This 30 minute programme hosted by NYP students, features lifestyle and entertainment bytes such as food hunts, movie reviews and useful trivia.

“It's sort of surreal, being a host on NYPTV. I didn't think that I would be part of something this exciting when I stepped into NYP. It is a great learning experience for me! My co-hosts and the production crew are a fun bunch of people and I feel privileged to work with them,” said Kenneth Foo, a student host of NYP On Air.

Fellow host Ros Leila Baharudin said: “I feel really proud to be part of NYPTV. It's a new experience for me as I've never been a host on TV before. The experience has been really fun and it has also given me more confidence in presenting and public speaking.

The Channel also features animation works from students of the School of Interactive & Digital Media. To promote their programmes, students conceptualise and produce their own trailers from scratch. In collaboration with international and local media partners the Channel also runs documentaries from AETN (History), youth and sports programmes from Mega Media (Sling HD), anime series from ODEX, as well as free-to-air TV programmes.

NYPTV is expected to train some 200 MSM students over the next three years.

NYPTV runs Mondays to Fridays, from 7.30am to 6.00pm daily, on a network of eight LCD screens located on campus. There are plans to further expand the network.
