  1. What is the tuition grant?

A student's education at a Polytechnic is subsidized by the Government of Singapore. The Government, through the Ministry of Education, provides tuition grants to all full-time students to help them pay part of the training cost. The student pays only the figures shown in the table above, which is the difference between the training cost and the tuition grant.

  3. Who can be sureties/guarantors and what must they do?

Those who accept the tuition grant will be required to execute a deed with the Government of Singapore, in the presence of two sureties. The sureties act as guarantors and can be of any nationality, above 21 and below 65 years of age and must not be undischarged bankrupt. They must be physically present at the polytechnic for the signing of the deed which usually takes place around May/June. Details will be known after the commencement of studies at the polytechnic.

  4. Are there any other fees payable?

Other than the tuition fees, all students are also required to pay supplementary fee of at least $120 (this varies slightly across the polytechnics).
A late payment fee of $15.00 will also be imposed if payment is not received by the due date stated on the 2nd billing of the Student Bill or permission to delay payment has not been obtained from the Registrar prior to the due date indicated on the student bill.

If the fees are not paid by the date stipulated in the FINAL REMINDER LETTER, students will be barred from examination/module credits for all modules registered for that semester in accordance with Clause 7.1 of the Assessment (Credit Based) Regulations 1993 and will be deemed to have sat and failed all those modules. If students are repeating a core module, failure to pay by the stipulated date may result in them being removed from their course of study.

  6. Are there any financial schemes to help students pay their fees (for foreign students)?

At the moment, we do not have any scholarships/bursaries that are being offered to international students.
It is important that students have the financial resources to support themselves during the course of their study and stay in Singapore.
The following schemes may be of help:

    • All full-time diploma students at our polytechnic are eligible for the Tuition Fee Loan Scheme.

This scheme takes care of up to a maximum of 75% of your tuition fees every academic year.
The loan is repayable by equal instalments starting no later than 1st June (for those who graduate in the 1st half of the year) or 1 December (for those who graduate in the 2nd half of the year) following the year of graduation or upon leaving the course, whichever is earlier. For borrowers with National Service Obligation, the repayment for the loan can be in one lump sum or equal monthly instalments commencing not later than one year after completing National service. The minimum amount repayable is $100 per month with repayment period extended up to a maximum of 10 years.

Full time diploma students are allowed to work part-time of up to 16 hours per week during school term and work full time during vacation as the Ministry of Manpower has exempted them from applying for work permits. There is no necessity to obtain any permission from the Polytechnic.
