Rapid Prototyping & Tooling constitutes part of the expertise of NYP’s School of Engineering (Manufacturing). Over the years, it has been supporting industry in meeting the challenges in product design and development, which encompasses conceptual design, mechanical design, rapid prototyping, and rapid tooling & mould development for consumer electronics, medical devices and aerospace. The key services offered include:

 

A) Product Design, Development & Industrial Design 
We have accumulated extensive experience working with industrial partners and are able to provide turnkey product development solutions, which includes services such as Finite Element Analysis, Mould Flow Analysis, Reverse Engineering and Computer-aided Manufacture (CAM).
B) Rapid Prototyping & Rapid Manufacturing 
The facilities include Stereolithography, Selective Laser Sintering, Fused Deposition Modeling and Direct Metal Laser Sintering. Both rapid prototyping in polymer and metal material can be carried out and the following equipments and software tools (such as Unigraphics NX, ProEngineer and Magics Software) are available: 
• Rapid Prototyping 
  o Selective Laser Sintering – EOS P390
  o Stereo Lithography Apparatus – SLA Viper Si2
  o Fused Deposition Modelling – FDM Fortus 900mc
• Rapid Tooling 
  o Direct Metal Laser Sintering - EOS M270
• Vacuum Casting 
  o HEK C004
C) Rapid Tooling & Hybrid Tooling 
We have developed and fabricated several rapid tooling inserts, with conformal cooling for the plastic molding industry. The rapid tooling inserts are built using the Direct Metal Laser Sintering machine and it can be fabricated in various metal-based materials.
D) Vacuum Casting
Vacuum Casting is a process that can be used to create multiple copies of a plastic prototype, with greater durability. We can fabricate in polyurethane, investing casting wax, low melting point alloy and even dual materials. 
E) Appearance and Functional Model
Our teams of experienced staff are able to develop and fabricate functional models by providing texturing, cosmetics, graphics and transfer lettering services. 


Industry Projects
The following includes some of the industry projects successfully completed:

Product Design & Development
Design, Development and Prototyping of Micro-Evaporative and Conductive Cooling System 

 
This project involves multi-disciplinary skills such as fluid mechanics, rechargeable power source and circuitry, human ergonomics, CAD modelling, prototyping, system integration and evaluation. The Micro-Evaporative and Conductive Cooling System will be used for the removal of heat load from protective garment used by soldier.

The scope of project includes design and development of the Micro-Evaporative and Conductive Cooling System, Portable Power Source, Air Distribution System, Man Pack Harness System, System Integration and Evaluation.

Design & Development of a Card Reader and Card Feeder System

This project involves the design and development of a new range of Business Card Reader and special Card Feeder System. The business card reader and special card feeder is capable to scanning a stack of business cards deploying leading edge Optical Character Recognition (ORC) and business card reading technologies to capture a data base of business contacts.

This is a turnkey product innovation project involving the area of research, industrial design, product development, high-end appearance model fabrication, rapid prototyping.

Design, Development, Analysis, High Finish Appearance Model and Prototyping of Mobile Phone Casings

This is a turnkey product innovation project that involves the area of concept design, product development, functional prototyping, high-finish appearance model development and mould flow analysis. The prototyping mobile phone casing was used for design verification, engineering review and marketing study.

Development And prototyping of Full Range Of Iron Products



This project was undertaken to support company in their product design and develop effort. The project scopes covers :
• Rapid Prototyping
• Vacuum Casting
• Post Finishing
The prototypes were used for design verification, functional testing, human factors study and marketing research. It helps to shorten the product time-to-market development cycle.
