Luggage Checklist

What clothes to bring?

As Singapore is a tropical country, winter clothing is  not necessary here, although you may want to bring along a light jacket or sweater. If you have extra luggage space, think of bringing a national costume of your country. In social gatherings, many Singaporeans like to wear their ethnic costumes to promote cultural awareness and exchange. Otherwise, for daily activities, light clothing such as casual pants, tee-shirts and long/short-sleeve shirts will suffice.

Your hand-carry luggage should contain the following items:

  • Passport
  • Air ticket
  • Letter of Offer from NYP
  • In-Principle Approval letter for Student Pass (issued by Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoint Authority (ICA))
  • Receipts of payments (tuition fees, health coverage, travel insurance, etc)
  • Original academic transcripts, education certificates, birth certificates, and all other supporting documents
  • Other personal identification documents eg. Driver's license, I.D. card, etc.
  • Medical letters or notes (if you have pre-existing medical conditions)
  • Some cash in Singapore dollars (S$1,000), or an equivalent amount in other convertible currencies which you can exchange into Singapore dollars upon arrival.
  • Towel and toiletries
  • Optional items (which can also be purchased in Singapore at reasonable prices) - bilingual dictionaries, alarm clock, camera, calculator, electrical devices*, sports gear/equipment
  • Laptop (NYP organised a computer fair within the first 3 weeks of the start of the semester. You may want to purchase your computer during the fair)

Notes:

*The electrical current in Singapore is 240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. Electrical plugs are 3 pin plugs. You can also consider buying a universal plug adaptor (available in DIY stores in Singapore) in case your electrical appliances are not fitted with such plugs.

**Objectionable literature, controlled drugs, pirated or illegally reproduced copies of print, audio and video publications are prohibited from entry into Singapore.
