5th Intake

Course Introduction

Singapore’s tourism industry enjoyed its best year ever in 2010 with visitor arrivals of 11.6 million and tourism receipts of $18.8 billion. These figures are projected to increase to 13 million and $24 billion respectively for 2011, especially with Singapore offering an even more compelling suite of tourism products and experiences. The integrated resorts, myriad attractions and a multitude of mega business and leisure events underscore Singapore’s status as a leading tourism hub and preferred travel destination. The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has forecasted up to 7% increase in travel to and within the Asia Pacific region over the next three years, thereby presenting significant opportunities and resulting economic benefits for Singapore*.

An increase in travel enables tourism businesses to thrive, resulting in thousands of tourism-related jobs for Singapore and other countries in the Asia Pacific region. Most of the appointments are in the hotel, food & beverage, theme park, attractions, retail, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) and corporate support services sectors. Hence, good career opportunities abound for qualified and well-trained executives who possess sound knowledge and understanding of hospitality and resort businesses.

To meet the growing manpower needs of the hospitality, resort and tourism sectors, Nanyang Polytechnic is pleased to offer a fifth intake of the Specialist Diploma in Hospitality and Resort Management, commencing 28 February 2012.

The programme is designed to prepare individuals for challenging careers in these sectors, and it offers comprehensive coverage of various aspects of managing Hospitality, Resort and MICE businesses.
