Diploma-Plus Programmes

The School of Chemical & Life Sciences offers Dip-Plus modules to eligible students to prepare and strengthen their foundation for university courses or to enhance their technical capability.
 

They will undertake their chosen modules in addition to their diploma modules during the course of their study. Students who successfully complete the Dip-Plus modules will receive a Dip-Plus transcript indicating the modules, hours and grades upon graduation.  
 

The following Dip-Plus modules are offered within the School of Chemical & Life Sciences:

  • CLA001 Advanced Physical Chemistry (30 hours)

    This module will provide students with advanced and extensive knowledge in physical chemistry that are important for understanding biological and chemical processes. These include gas laws & phase diagrams, chemical energetics, electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, acid-base titration curves and solubility product.
  • CLA002 Chemical Reactions and Mechanisms (30 hours)

    This module will provide students with advanced and extensive knowledge in inorganic and organic chemistry that are important for understanding biological and chemical processes. These include shapes of molecules, acidity and basicity of organic compounds, detailed reaction mechanisms for electrophilic substitution in arenes, nucleophilic substitution and elimination.
  • CLA003 Anatomy & Physiology (60 hours)

    This module aims to give students a broad understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body. This understanding will act as a base upon which they can build knowledge of disease states, pharmacology and related disciplines.
  • CLA004 Calculus (30 hours)

    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them to take on the more advanced DPP mathematics modules. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Major topics: Differentiation, integration and simple first-order differential equations.
  • CLA101 Analytical Geometry (30 hours)

    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them for further studies in mathematics-related disciplines and courses at the university level. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Topics covered include functions and graphs, inequalities, conic sections, plane curves, polar coordinates, vectors, sequences and series.
  • CLA102 Applied Calculus (30 hours)

    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them for further studies in mathematics-related disciplines and courses. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Topics covered include limits of functions, derivatives and its applications (including concavity), integration techniques (including trigonometric substitutions and improper integrals) and its applications.
  • CLA103 Advanced Calculus (60 hours)

    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them for further studies in mathematics-related disciplines and courses at the university level. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Topics covered include functions of several variables, partial derivatives, multiple integrals, infinite sequences and series, test of convergence for series.
