Road to Imperial College via Nanotechnology
School of Engineering

Lovell Ong started reading for his direct Master’s in Materials Science and Engineering at Imperial College London in 2015, under an ST Engineering scholarship. This new journey was sparked by an unusual source, a TV commercial: “Actually I saw an advertisement about how a watch could morph into something else. That’s how I became intrigued by nanotechnology.” Lovell’s single-minded passion for nanotechnology has allowed him to blaze a path to the prestigious Imperial College.

After graduating from Jurong Secondary School with straight As, Lovell pursued a Diploma in Nanotechnology & Materials Science at Nanyang Polytechnic. He continued his scintillating performance and was awarded the ST Engineering scholarship in his first year of studies. When he graduated in 2012, he topped his cohort with 26 Distinctions and 7 As, and was the proud recipient of the 3M Singapore Gold Medal, 3M Singapore Award for Outstanding Project Work and the Lee Kuan Yew Award.
