WorldSkills Competition 2015

The 43rd WorldSkills Competition took place at Anhembi Parque, São Paulo, Brazil from 11 to 16 August 2015. There were more than 1180 competitors from 59 countries pitting their talents against each other in 50 skill areas. The objectives of the competition are to provide an international platform for young skilled workers to distinguish themselves in their vocations, as well as to raise the standard of excellence in industrial skills.

Team Singapore competed in 20 skill areas, and NYP/ SEG represented Singapore in 5 trades and was awarded the Medallion for Excellence for all trades it participated in. 

CNC Turning – Ng Ming Yang

Ming Yang represented Singapore in the WorldSkills Competition 2015 in the CNC Turning trade. He was awarded the Medallion for Excellence for his outstanding performance.

Ming Yang: "Participating in WorldSkills Sao Paulo 2015 has been a rewarding and memorable experience. I feel honoured to have taken part in this prestigious event, as it is a platform for youths around the world to showcase their expertise in their respective skills. I was also pleased to have been able to represent my own country in my skill area."

Electronics – Ng Wei Xin

Wei Xin represented Singapore in the WorldSkills Competition 2015 in the Electronics trade. He was awarded the Medallion for Excellence for his outstanding performance.

Wei Xin: "It’s a great honour to represent Singapore to compete with 22 other countries in the trade of electronics at WorldSkills Sao Paulo 2015. I’ve seen, learnt and experienced a lot from this competition. The best takeaway from this competition was getting to know people from various countries who shared a common interest with me."

Mechanical Engineering Design – Muhammad Miqdad Bin Mazlan

Miqdad represented Singapore in the WorldSkills Competition 2015 in the MEDCAD trade. He was awarded the Medallion for Excellence for his outstanding performance.

Miqdad: "The competition was very keen and stressful. However, with determination, perseverance and the training received, I managed to pull through. I fully realised that one can overcome physical and mental obstacles if the goal is clear. I’m proud that I have represented my country to participate in such a high level competition. Thank you, NYP!"

Mechatronics – Eugene Peh Xian Bin and Poh Yong Han

Eugene and Yong Han represented Singapore in the WorldSkills Competition 2015 in the Mechatronics trade. They were awarded the Medallion for Excellence for their outstanding performance.

Yong Han: "Participating in the WorldSkills Competition was a test of my skill and planning competencies and also my mental resilience. Eugene, my partner, and I were competing with 36 teams, who were the best from their respective countries. In the four days of competition, we had to deliver the test projects and we managed to beat many of those teams. I am grateful for the training provided by NYP. This competition has also brought out the best from us. I am more confident now in putting my acquired knowledge into practice. Lastly, I am honoured to be able to represent Singapore to compete against the best in the world in this large scale prestigious competition."

Mobile Robotics – Lin Yong Qiang and Dinesh Mangalanathadurai

After 4 days of gruelling competition, Lin Yong Qiang and Dinesh Mangalanathadurai were ranked fourth in the competition. They were awarded the Medallion for Excellence.
