Biomedical Engineering Society 2016 Scientific Meeting
School of Engineering

The Biomedical Engineering Society (BES) Scientific Meeting is an annual symposium organized to provide a platform for students from junior colleges, polytechnics, undergraduate and graduate levels to present and show-case their projects to academics and professionals in the biomedical engineering industry.

The Biomedical Engineering Society 10th Scientific Meeting was held on 14 May 2016 at NTU. 7 students from our BME and NMS diploma study programmes participated with 6 projects in the oral and poster presentation.

Our students performed well, and received 2 merit awards in the polytechnic category of the oral presentation competition:

  • Chong Jia Hao, Goh Ming Cang, “Development of Bus Arrival Notification System for the Visually Handicapped”. Project supervisors: Dr. Kong Wai Ming, Shi Shao.
  • Nur Syafiqah Amirah binte Zakaria, “Development and testing of Biodegradable Polymer used in packing”. Project supervisors: Lee Chuen Kum, Ng Chin Tiong.

Both presentations are part of external funded projects; “Development of Bus Arrival Notification System for the Visually Handicapped” is funded by Tote Board SIR awarded in 2014, and “Development and testing of Biodegradable Polymer used in packing” is funded by  MOE-TIF awarded in 2015. Through these funded projects, the students were exposed to real industrial research projects, enriching their learning, and provided them opportunities to showcase NYP projects.
