WorldSkills Competition 2016

At the recent WorldSkills Singapore 2016 (WSS2016), NYP School of IT participated in three trades namely, IT Network and Systems Administration, IT Software Solutions for Business and Web Design.

For the past 15 months, Li Kangli and Ang Guang Yao, both 2nd year students from Diploma in Cyber-Security and Forensics, have been training hard for the WorldSkills Singapore 2016 competition, IT Network and Systems Administration trade, which requires them to be proficient in Windows / Linux Server Administration as well as CISCO Network Administration. Their hard work finally paid off when Kangli was awarded the Gold medal and the Silver medal went to Guang Yao. Congratulations and kudos to both of them for their excellent achievements.

Kangli, being one of the WSS 2016 Gold medallist, will go on to represent Singapore at the International World Skills Competition 2017, to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Other SIT students have also done NYP proud in the IT Software Solutions for Business trade. The competitors were tasked with designing and developing a full-fledged ticketing and event management system for the Singapore Airshow in 12 hours, spread over 2 days. Apart from software development, competitors were also expected to present their business case on the third day to a panel of judges.

SIT students Amabel Yeo Yi Jia from the Diploma in Information Technology as well as Nicholas Yap Guo Dong from the Diploma in Cyber-Security and Forensics put in their best against the rest of the competitors. Amabel's hard work paid off and she brought home the bronze medal. For Nicholas, he had performed well and gained much from the process.

Another SIT student, Sherman Sng Rong Sheng from the Diploma in Information Technology also competed in the Web Design trade and achieved the Medallion of Excellence, awarded to competitors who score more than 500 marks in recognition for their skills area. The competitors were tasked to work on 6 test projects in 16 hours spread over 3 days, which covers from designing website mockup, creating a websites, interactive contents and games.
