IEEE APEC International Micromouse Competition 2010

NYP is the Champion again and also bagged the Best Student Award!

Team from School of Engineering

Nanyang Polytechnic emerged as the Champion again and our Diploma in Electronics, Computer & Communications Engineering (DECC) student, Matthew Oh Han Xiong bagged the Best Student Award in the competition.

Our robots, “BR10SW”; “X580”; “Ghost Gasper” emerged as the top 3 positions in the competition. As the competition rule only allows one prize per institution, we clinched the Champion prize. NYP's student entry, "Ghost Gasper", took the Best Student Award, beating other student competitors from ITE, Japan and India.

The team from the School of Engineering consists of Siew Peng Shorn, Yin Hsiang Ting, Zheng Yongxian and Soh Yi Lang who are staff from the Embedded Technology Centre and students, Matthew Oh Han Xiong and Edward Ong Yong Seng.

"I have always been interested in programming and robotics since secondary. I chose DECC as my 1st choice because NYP is very established in robotics and I can fulfill my aspirations to work on robots. The school provided me training since year 1 and gave me many opportunities to participate in competitions. In year 3, more in-depth training is provided. Although the robot system and programming seem complicated at first, I was able to understand and contribute by applying what I learnt in my 3 years in NYP. "Matthew said.

"During the competition, I encountered a minor problem but I manage to resolve it and am happy to contribute to the NYP team and bagged the Best Student Award beating other student competitors from ITE, Japan and India. The experience and knowledge gained would help me in pursuing my degree in NTU." Matthew added
