Have you ever wondered why Nanotechnology is becoming one of the most exciting technologies in this new era? Think small, really small – smaller than anything you ever saw through a microscope. Think atoms and molecules, and now you’re at nanoscale! This science of miniaturization, coupled with materials science, is fast emerging as one of the most important technologies today due to the excitement it generated worldwide. The applications are found in almost every field, such as products for consumer and lifestyle, medical, electronics, as well as the renewable clean energy industries. Nanotechnology has the potential to deliver cheaper products that are smaller, better, faster, stronger and possess new functionalities like the invisible sunscreen, cosmetics, self-cleaning glass, scratch-resistant coatings and antimicrobial bandages.

Materials Science has a big impact on our everyday life, where every part of what we do is connected to materials. Materials Science is the study of metals, ceramics, polymers and composites, as well as more advanced materials like biomaterials, semiconductors and smart materials. You will learn to develop, handle and analyze these materials.

Nanotechnology and Materials Science involves applying science and engineering at scales approaching molecular or atomic dimensions. The course offers students the opportunity to learn and master the skills across multiple disciplines in the different Sciences and be in the forefront of research and development of these advanced technologies.

Graduates with the Diploma in Nanotechnology and Materials Science from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to support the relevant industries and institutions. It will provide them with ample opportunities to work on real-life industry projects and will also gear them for careers in a variety of advanced technologies in materials and nanotechnology.
