The Centre for Digital & Precision Engineering (CDPE) of Nanyang Polytechnic is a specialist Centre that provides an educational and development platform which focuses on core competencies in precision engineering for its project students, staff and the industries.

Areas Of Specialisation
The Centre specialises in 4 core areas namely Digital Manufacturing Applications such as Collaborative Product design and engineering, Tooling Design, Plastic Flow and Finite Element Analysis; 3D Mould Design such as Mould Design and Analysis, Multi Component mould, multi cavity moulds; Digital Metrology and Nanometrology such as reverse engineering, calibration, inspection services, material characterisation; and Advanced Machining Technology such as Multi-axis CNC Machining, High Speed Machining, Micro Machining, and EDM.

The CDPE Digital Manufacturing Laboratory was set up to support the Computer Aided Design, Manufacturing, Engineering and Product Lifecycle management training for full time and part-time Diploma courses. The laboratory conducts customised training programmes for the local industry and international training programmes for overseas participants. The laboratory undertakes industrial projects in product design & development, finite element analysis, manufacturing and product data management and also provides design consultancy services to the industry.

3D Mould Design

The 3D mould design section provides support for mould design and analysis training for full time and part-time Diploma courses, conducts customise training programme for local industry and support customised international training programmes for overseas participants. The section also undertakes industrial project in product design and development, mould design and provides design consultancy services to industry.
For industrial project works, the products are designed and modeled using three-dimensional engineering modeling software to the meet the requirement of the customers. Traditional method of identifying best gate location through human experience is replaced by design engineer using latest flow analysis software. Flow simulation is carried out to determine the optimum feed system, weld lines and air traps before embarking on 3D mould design. These critical engineering data are incorporated in the tool design to improve product quality and minimise design changes during the manufacturing process.
Multiple-Axes High Speed CNC Machining

High Speed CNC Machining Laboratory is equipped with multi-axis machining center, integrated with up-to-date CAD/CAM system for complex part fabrication. Optimise machining tool paths and cutting parameters are validated for multi-axis CNC programs using integrated CAM software and post process for customised machine configuration.

Ultra Precision Machining and Micro Machining

The Ultra Precision and Micro Machining Laboratory is equipped with a range of high speed ultra precision and micro machining centers to support the fabrication of micro components and devices. Product range includes micro tooling, hard disk, medical devices and micro fluidic system.

Digital Metrology

The CDPE Digital Metrology Application Laboratory was set up to train technical specialists and students in precision measurement. It is equipped with the state-of-the-art computerised measuring instruments to meet the demands for the manufacture of intelligent precision products with extremely high precision, fine construction and high accuracies.
The laboratory supports the industries in the area of reverse engineering, first article inspection, calibration of gauges and precision inspection system. It also develops customised training programs in advanced metrology, to equip the industrial participants the technical competency in using precision measuring equipment to solve complex measuring problems.

Nanometrology

The CDPE Nanometrology Application Laboratory was set up to support the measurement and material characterisation needs of NYP’s in-house nanotechnology development projects and to collaborate with industry on nanotechnology projects. The laboratory also supports training of students in high resolution precision measurements.
It is well-equipped with state-of-the-art high resolution measuring instruments to meet the demands of measurement and characterisation at the nanoscale. This includes dimensional measurements and characterisation of mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties of materials.
