Designed to focus on the artistic side of games, this diploma aims to nurture talents who are keen to seek employment in the interactive entertainment industry. Game is an interactive application that embeds entertainment. It is a multi-disciplinary field that encompasses leading edge technology and creative design. With the game industry having increasing demands for more realistic graphics and human-like intelligence, the line between virtual and reality is getting fuzzy. Designing games is now more than writing an entertainment application for general consumers. Together with better broadband infrastructure, it has come of age to mean designing interactive entertainment software for communities that connect people.

Students participating in this diploma will have a focused study with curriculum modules that are relevant and in line with the changing market needs. They will develop their knowledge and skills in conceptualizing game play and game levels - taking into consideration player psychology; designing and creating characters and environments; and evaluating game products.

In the first year, students will focus on building a strong foundation in principles, techniques and skills. Topics covered range from 2D drawing and animation techniques, design principles to conceptualizing and conveying game ideas.

In the second year, students will go in depth into character and environment design, 3D modeling and animation techniques and advanced topics in game designing.

Each semester of the first 2 years will end with students taking part in game projects that will allow them to apply what they have learned and experience game production. Students would get the chance to work closely with students from the Diploma in Digital Entertainment Technology, who would focus on the programming aspect of game development.

In the final year, students will work on game projects with local and international companies. Our experiences in games design and our strong industry links will enable students to work on industry projects that add values to their design knowledge. Opportunities would also be made available for students to go for overseas attachment to renowned game companies and institutes, in countries like China, France and the United States.

Through all the modules taught and the projects to be completed per year, students will further enhance their critical thinking, logic, communication and problem solving skills.

All these trainings will equip students with the right skill sets to enter the interactive entertainment workforce. Graduates from this program will be able to join the workforce as game designer, level designer, concept artist, 2D/3D game artist, modeler and animator.
