School of Interactive & Digital Media

 

Digital Media Design courses were first offered in 1996 as part of the School of IT's Digital Media Design Centre effort which later became the School of Design in 2002 and finally as the first School of Interactive and Digital Media (SIDM) in Singapore in 2006.

 

The following link gives a brief history of the key milestones of developments in SIDM and our contributions to the Interactive & Digital Media education and training, industry besides other initiatives.

SIDM's vision is to be one of Asia's finest school in digital media design and digital entertainment technology. We seek to enhance our programs so as to be internationally recognised for our students work, staff capabilities and up-to-date and relevant curriculum
in concept art, animation, games design & development, visual effects, interaction design, motion graphics, digital entertainment technology and cross media development.

 

SIDM attracts and trains both local and regional talents for Singapore digital media industry. We currently offers 6 innovative diploma courses and 1 specialist diploma that integrates art, design and technology for the digital age.

 

 

We believe in helping young aspiring designers achieve their potentials through developing their creative talents and laying a solid foundation for a long and fruitful design career. Our programmes are developed and endorsed by a myriad of industrial partners.
Our students are trained proficiently and have skills closely relevant to the job market. They also have opportunities to go global through our Overseas Industry Attachment Programme (OIPP), our study visits to studios key conferences such as Siggraph, Tokyo Game Show, GDC, Promax/BDA and other festivals.

 

The three-year curriculum also develops students in their creative and entrepreneurial mindset that puts our graduates in demand.
The courses are designed using unique teaching studio pedagogy, supported by advance IT infrastructure, high-end hardware, and professional software, and incorporated with industrial- proven workflow.

 

The best proof of our diploma courses is the track record of a string of awards won at local and international competitions
over the years.

 

Students accepted into any one of these 6 courses will not only have the right breadth and depth of key foundation modules but will also be equipped with the necessary specialized knowledge and focused skills to meet the increased demands of the IDM industry. With top-notched companies like Lucasfilm Animation Singapore, Koei Entertainment, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts including Infinite Frameworks, and Scrawl Studios, Big Communications, Lights and Shadow, Blackmagic Design, Peach Blossoms, Raintree, Mediacorp, VHQ and a growing list of many others, the emphasis on better and relevant education and training in IDM must be maintained.

 

Students undertaking any one of these diploma courses will also have opportunities to learn from industry practitioners and overseas experts from top animation and games studios and companies through our master-classes and workshops which are held during the academic year.  You will also follow the footsteps of our graduates to work in some of the top-notch companies in Singapore as well as overseas.

 

Alternatively, you could also further their studies either at bachelor degree or master degree levels at universities or institutions locally or overseas. Currently, our top graduates have direct admission to masters program in USA such as Carnegie Mellon University (Entertainment Technology Centre), Savannah College of Art and Design, and Rhode Island School of Design, and in UK such as Bournemouth University.

 

We also have graduates pursuing bachelor degrees in USA such as at the Academy Art University, CalArts, Ringling College of Art and Design, and OTIS College of Art and Design, Sheridan College and Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Canada, and a majority of universities in UK, Australia and NZ as well as locally at DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore, NUS and NTU.
