Director's Desk

Dear readers,

Welcome to the School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM).Thanks for stopping by our page.

We are into the 5th month of the year. The final year students have successfully held their Diploma Show Fusion 2012. It was indeed a Brand New Show. If you have missed it, fret not – check out: http://fusion.nyp.edu.sg

May is really the end of a chapter for many of our students at SIDM. The class of 2012 will be officially graduating and receiving their well-deserved diplomas on the 22 May 2012. We congratulate all 345 of them who will be receiving their full-time diplomas. We also congratulate another 15 who have successfully completed and will be receiving their Specialist Diploma in Games Development too. We look forward in seeing you on facebook and at our alumni events

The class of 2012 will be doing 3 things from May onwards: seek out new employment with their newly acquired skills; prepare for National Service or prepare for their university studies either locally or overseas. I heard some from

the latter 2 groups have been freelancing while waiting to commence their new chapters either for National Service or starting at the University. We wish all of you every success.

In the meantime, at the School, our students were busy too. The first years were settling down to their first month in their new diplomas. The second and third years were busy too, and for a good cause too. Taking advantage of May 4th which is universally known as Star Wars Day, the students organized a “May the 4th Be With You” afternoon to raise funds for the Singapore Children Society. Staff, students and friends came and gamely took part in the fun event, buying home-made star wars cookies and cupcakes, complete with a tiny little light-sabre on top of it. They also participated in a no-hold bars auction of star wars memorabilia, thanks to a generous donor and many bidders among staff and students.

The month of May will end with the launch of the 7th Singapore Games Creation Competition (SGCC) 2012 for all secondary school students including those from the international schools. Thanks to our partners, Starhub, Peoples’ Association, IDA, MDA, YOYO Games and Sony Computer Entertainment Asia, this year’s competition will be just as exciting and with very exciting prizes. Form your teams and register with the SGCC team at http://gdev.nyp.edu.sg/sgcc/ to find out more details. Come for the Game Competition Launch on 29 May 2012. Sign up for our Game Creation workshops.

Best Regards
