1st runner-up and winner of the best Kaazing web socket: PersonalizeIT

Competing against 90 over teams from both IT professional teams and IHL teams, SIT students have once again emerged champions in both the Open Category and the National Infocomm Competition (NIC) Polytechnics/ITE Circuit of code::XtremeApps::Competition 2011. In addition, our SIT students also won the special prize for the best Kaazing web socket application in the competition. The champions walked away with S$9000 (Champion Open Category), US$2500 (Special prize from Kaazing), 3 IPAD 2 and 3 HTC Android phones.

 

This national level competition, a 24-hour programming marathon with emphasis on innovation utilizing standards, was organized by the Singapore IT Standards Committee (iTSC) and supported by IDA, LTA, ITMA, SCS and SiTF, and attracted over 90 participating teams from NUS, NTU, SMU , Polytechnics and experienced IT professionals teams. The competition was held at SMU premise from 22-23 July 2011.

 

The theme for this year's competition is "Personalised Transportation". The organisers hope to see new applications being developed in this year's programming competition, putting infocomm to smart use that will impact our lifestyles positively and giving young programming talents lots of leeway to express their creativity in a useful way.

 

The champion team, Team Dino, comprising of Koh Kai Wei, Kok Kiat Han and Royson Ng from Diploma in Information Security (DIS) developed an innovative solution called Flag-xi, a mobile application that allows flagging of taxis right from the mobile phone, enables taxi-pooling services to cut cost for passengers and subsequently allows taxi companies and clients to analyse statistical data using smart phones and portable devices.

 

The 1st runner-up and winner of the best Kaazing web socket application in the competition went to Team PersonalizeIT. Team members Chen Jinzhi (DBI), Yip Jun Hui (DIT) and Andrew Fong (DIT) developed an Android application called Whe?e, which provides a full suite of mobility and communication solution for working parents to maintain connections with their sch-going children and elderly parents. It allows working parents to view current locations of their children or elderly parents real time with their mobile devices, giving them the ease of mind knowing that their children or elderly parents are safe.

code::XtremeApps 2010 Competition winners

 

SIT students emerged as Champion in the Open Category and Champion & 1st runner-up in the NIC Polytechnics /ITE Circuit of code::XtremeApps:: Competition. In addition, our SIT students also won the special prize for developing the Best Mobile Application for the competition. 2 teams also won Merit award for the Open Category. The Champion team won a total of $10,500 for emerging champion in both Open Category and NIC Circuit.

 

This national level competition, a 24-hour programming marathon with emphasis on innovation utilizing standards, was organized by the Singapore IT Standards Committee (iTSC) and supported by IDA, NEA, ITMA, SCCCI, SCS and SiTF, attracted a total of 62 participating teams from NUS, NTU, SMU , Polytechnics and experienced IT professionals teams. The competition was held at SMU premise from 23-24 July 2010.

 

The theme for this year's competition is applying infocomm technologies to reduce energy usage and our impact on the environment, to promote sustainable living practices. The winning team, “The Dynamics” develops a innovative solution to integrate technologies from Red Hat’s Jboss, Glement’s Germanium Web and Cloud services using Microsoft’s Project Nimbus.

 

The champion team, The Dynamics, comprising of Kishan S/O Manokaran, Shaikh Abdul Hakam and Hamdi Khaldon Abdat from Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) developed an innovative solution called Green Remote Estate Network (GREN). The solution allows users to remotely monitor and control a plurality of electrically appliances visually using Germanium Web Technology. It allows users to configure, monitor and maintain appliances in a remote building anytime, anywhere.

 

The 1st runner-up and winner of the Best Mobile Application went to NYP Save3Earth. Team members Foong Wenjun (DIT) , Goh Shi Yun Angela (DIT) and Xie LinMei (DBI) developed an Android application called EaseGreen , uses augmented reality and location awareness technology through GPS to let users contribute and retrieve information on “green locations” in Singapore such as recycling bins.

2 teams of SIT students have clinched the top 2 prizes, Champion and Second Prize of the Code::XtremeApps 2008 Competition. Both teams also won the top two prizes of the code::XtremeApps::Challenge of the National Infocomm Competition - Polytechnic/ITE circuit.

 

The Code::XtremeApps competition, held over 19-20 July 2008, is a 24-hr marathon programming competition for the second year running at the national level and is organized by the IT Standards Committee, supported by IDA and Spring Singapore. This year the competition attracted 75 participating teams from NUS, NTU, SMU, Polytechnics and experienced IT professional teams. The teams were tasked to create a Web application, using frameworks from IBM Project Zero and Adobe AIR, based on the theme “Extreme Sports Entertainment” within 24 hours.

 

The champions, NYP_Aries, of team members Chen Jiahao, Loh Kah Wei and Pang Sze Chong, developed a community-driven Web 2.0 application called “Extreme Formula”. It allows Formula One (F1) fans to share and track the latest F1 news, maps, events and images leading up to the much anticipated race next month (September 2008).

 

The second prize went to team NYP_Libra. Team members Tan Thiam Shui, Loke Yan Hao and Benjamin Cheung developed a social network named “ExtremeAvatars”. The application allows users to interact with each other and contribute content on extreme sports.

 

Our 2 teams of SIT students have clinched these top awards by building impressive solutions based on Web 2.0 Mashup technologies and Rich Internet Applications, surpassing all other teams in innovation, value, aesthetics and sophistication.
