OpenJive 2009
2 teams of SIT students made it to the finals of the Open Jive Regional Challenge 09. The teams also clinched the Sun Innovation and Best Teamwork Awards.

Envitro is a revolutionary system that allow users to control the switches via a smart plug at home over the phone, obtain electrical usage data and add high level abstract regulatory policies to limit usage.
The electrical consumption of the home will be constantly monitored by Envitro and if the usage exceeds an unacceptable level, users will be notified and recommended actions will be suggested by the system.
Envitro has the ability to manage electronic devices automatically. For example, if there is sufficient sunlight in the room, Envitro will automatically dim or switch off the lights. In addition, with Envitro, users can share their electrical consumption of their devices with other users.
This serves as a platform for consumers to compare similar products from different manufacturers based on electrical consumption before they consider buying them.

People are leading a more hectic lifestyle so it is difficult for them to keep in touch with all their friends on a regular basis. However, most people still go online regularly for work and leisure despite their hectic schedule.
With this in mind, the team propose WAID, a context-aware pervasive system that allow users to automatically notify their friends about what they are doing using context-specific devices such as mobile phone, webcam or sensor motes.
With WAID, users can automatically notify their friends about what they are doing while engaging in their real life activities.

JavaJive Challenge 2008
Two SIT teams have done well in the recent JavaJive Challenge 2008, a National Infocomm competition organised by Sun Microsystems, IDA and hosting partners.

During the Sun Developer's Day in July 2008, the teams were invited to exhibit their projects. They garnered much attention from the industry during the event, who asked many questions related to the possible commercialization of the projects.
JavaJive Challenge 2007
A team of four students from DBI jived their way to emerge as Champions to the JivaJive Challenge Web 2.0 Finals 2007, a National Infocomm competition organised by Sun Microsystems, ITE and IDA.
The Paparazzi team comprising of Scott Tan Wei Li,Chong Zheng Long, Chen HaoYang Edison, Xu Ying Ken clinched the award with a project which allow one to broadcast oneself. Taking video broadcasting to the next level, Paparazzi allows broadcasting in 3 unique dimensions, People, Places, and Events to the audience the user choose. Users with shared interests can easily locate and interact. Visited locations can be marked in a multimedia fashion and shared like a travelogue.
The Finals was held in conjunction with Sun Developer's Day event and the team did us proud again by winning the Sun Developer's Choice Award among the participating teams . This was decided by SMS voting by the 400 participants at the event. The team has earlier won the Best Technology Award.
