Cloud Innovation Centre

Cloud Innovation Centre

Students from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) will be equipped with expertise in cloud computing thanks to a landmark collaboration inked on 19 April 2011, between NYP and Microsoft Singapore. Under this collaboration, a NYP – Microsoft Cloud Innovation Centre has been set up. The Centre is the first ever formal facility in an Institute of Higher Learning that trains students in Microsoft's cloud computing technology and software.

Located at NYP's School of Information Technology, the Centre will train students in different aspects of cloud computing, via the infusion of cloud computing technology in NYP's IT diplomas. These include Software-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service and Infrastructure-as-a-Service cloud computing paradigms across the web and smart devices. Students will also receive cloud-related IT professional certifications, via the Microsoft IT Academy programme.

The Centre will also engage in R&D and develop enterprise business software services for the industry, by embracing an emerging class of social, collaborative and participative cloud services on the Internet. For example, staff and students from NYP have researched and developed cloud services for sending email attachments of unlimited size, securely over the web as well as for the secured storage of files on the Internet. These projects were recently awarded research grants from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore and Ministry of Education respectively.
