Digitalise to Survive – F&B Companies to Learn How
Published on 31 Aug 2018

Dear Media Friends,

Singapore's food industry is gaining prominence worldwide. From Michelin-starred hawkers and restaurants to the hawker culture UNESCO heritage listing bid, and the recent exposure on Crazy Rich Asians movie. But manpower problems and rising costs are threatening Singapore's burgeoning reputation for good food.

Nanyang Polytechnic’s Asian Culinary Institute (NYP-ACI) wants companies to digitalise to survive. At NYP-ACI’s upcoming Food Sciences Transformation Conference 2018, local and international food industry experts will share ways to adopt digitalisation and technology in the competitive F&B business.

A keynote speaker is Dr Takeshi Shimmura, Executive Vice President, Ganko Food Service Co. Ltd & Visiting Professor from Ritsumeikan University. He will speak on the service science in Japanese food service industry. Both Singapore and Japan face similar challenges with declining birth rates and an aging population. The two countries share the pressing need to move towards a lean labour structure.

Another international speaker, Dr Takeshi Takenaka from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology will show how big data can boost customers’ satisfaction, improve bottom lines and manage the labour crunch.  [ACI to confirm] (Interview opportunities with these speakers are available upon request.)

Visual opportunities include a demonstration by NYP’s School of Engineering Kawada robot, which is able to take customer's food orders. A specially curated exhibition will show participants the upcoming technological trends that are relevant to their business.

We would like to invite you to join us at the conference, along with your photographer/camera crew.
