NYP Launches Series of Activities for Early Admissions Exercise 2022
Published on 26 May 2022

SINGAPORE, 26 May 2022 – NYP will mount 14 activities in June to help students and their parents through the Polytechnic Early Admissions Exercise1 (EAE). Building on the enthusiastic reception to the inaugural EAE Festival in 2021, this year’s events see a series of talks, seminars, and tours – both online and in-person – so that students can learn more about NYP’s schools and courses, get direction on what suits them better, and gain tips on securing a spot via the EAE.

2 The EAE Festival kicks off with NYP’s popular Parents’ Webinar – helmed personally by the polytechnic’s Principal & CEO – on 03 Jun.

3 Principal & CEO of Nanyang Polytechnic, Ms Jeanne Liew, says: “This year’s EAE Festival brings together both online and offline activities – to enable students and parents to choose from their preferred activities and mode of interaction, with NYP staff and seniors. With the continued easing of COVID-19 measures, we hope to allow more prospective students to gain a better understanding of the course offerings and learning style at NYP through physical on-site tours, while keeping alternative options for them to speak to NYP staff to answer any queries they might have on the EAE process. We believe this hybrid mix of activities will help students get a better sense of how their preferred disciplines are taught at NYP.”

4 This year’s NYP EAE Festival features the following:

  • Parents’ Webinar (on 03 Jun): Helmed by NYP’s Principal and CEO, Ms Jeanne Liew, a veteran educator with more than 20 years’ experience at various polytechnics under her belt. She shares the advantages of the EAE, how your teen can benefit from the hands-on curriculum and why NYP is a good choice for your teen’s further education. Parents are invited to a live Q&A at this session to clarify any doubts about NYP and the EAE. This Webinar also gives participants the option to do a break-out, to an NYP School2 of their choice, where more questions are answered.
  • Tour the Campus (on 04 and 11 Jun): Check out your choice of NYP schools and explore our high-tech facilities, laboratories, and training centres. Meet your would-be lecturers and student seniors in-person to find out how NYP’s extensive network and industry connections create excellent internship opportunities for you.
  • Prep Workshops (runs on 06, 09, 10 and 11 Jun): Understand the difference between the 600- or 1,000-character write-ups either during our virtual (09 Jun) or in-person (11 Jun) sessions. Know how to prepare an ideal design portfolio (for Design & Media applicants only) during our virtual sessions with lecturers on 06 and 10 Jun.
  • Discovering Your Potential (runs on 04 Jun): The Education and Career Guidance (ECG) in-person session is meant to walk parents through the process of helping your teen understand their interests and aptitudes.
  • E-Meet Our Schools (from 14 to 16 Jun): Participants can get a better understanding of the disciplines they are interested in, whether in applied science, business, design, engineering, healthcare or IT. Schools will take prospects through the courses they offer and share insights about what we look out for in EAE applicants during interviews. Seniors will also share about their EAE journey.

5 The EAE has been a boon for many students: Rebecca Rose Quek would not have entered her dream course – NYP’s Diploma in Social Work – if she had relied solely on her O Level results. Currently, a Year Two student, Rebecca said she is grateful for the EAE which enabled her to get a head start into her career goal, to be a Child Protection Officer. “I want to support and protect the well-being of young persons in vulnerable settings. The EAE has enabled me to pursue my Social Work diploma, and prepare me for my future career aspirations,” Rebecca said.

6 Orion Raysher Lee also gained admission to NYP’s Diploma in Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics via the EAE. He earlier graduated in May 2022 with a stellar 3.93 GPA and credits the EAE for allowing him to pursue his interest in information technology and programming – without worrying about the pressure of the O Levels. “I was really worried about my O Level examinations and am thankful that I managed to secure a seat into my dream course through the EAE”, he said. As a Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT) scholar, Orion had the opportunity to intern at the agency during his final year at NYP, where he learnt more about the field. He intends to read Computer Science at National University of Singapore.

1 Introduced in 2016, the EAE is an aptitude-based admission exercise. Instead of grades, admission is at the discretion of the polytechnics when applicants demonstrate aptitude and passion for the subject. Participation in CCAs, Advanced Elective Modules (AEMs), Applied Learning Modules (ApLMs), Applied Learning Programmes (ALPs), workshops or work attachments can all be considered as merit and evidence of interest. Once offered, the student need to only score the minimum requirements at the O Levels.

2 NYP has six Schools: The Schools of Applied Science, Business Management, Design & Media, Engineering, Health & Social Sciences, and Information Technology.
