REACH FOR GREATER HEIGHTS!

I graduated in 2007 with a Diploma in Nursing with Merit. I also received an award for academic excellence. In 2010, I graduated with the Advanced Diploma in Critical Care Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Curtin University.

During my course of study, the fundamentals of teaching impressed me. The lecturers were impressive and highly knowledgeable. They were able to direct us in course-specific modules. I enjoyed the unlimited ad-hoc consultations as they warmly welcomed us every time.

I came back to NYP to do my Advanced Diploma in Critical Care Nursing in 2010. It was a completely different time as the semesters were packed with a lot of modules within a short period of eight months.

I have been a nurse at TTSH for 26 years and have been a specialty wound care nurse since 2012. I have also had the experience of being a nurse in the Operation Theatre and Medical Intensive Care Unit.

Currently, I am a trainer for the TTSH Pressure Injury team consisting of 200 nurses. Being a Wound Care Specialist Nurse is challenging yet rewarding work. The dynamic and dedicated staff team was also an inspiration for me to improve my clinical skills and product knowledge, and to pursue a specialisation.

A day at work for me usually involves assessing and diagnosing a wound, planning an intervention, and recommending an appropriate evidenced-based wound product.  These are some specialised skills that I have been developing every day on the job. But above all, compassion is the foundation of why I am a wound care nurse.

It is important for young nurses to keep up to date on new developments in advanced practices and products, willingness to teach others as a method of staying current in the field.
