Diploma in Food and Beverage Business (C46)

Course Introduction

The Economic Surveys Series published by the Singapore Department of Statistics with reference to the progress of Food & Beverage (F&B) Services in 2009 showed that there were a total of 5,992 F&B establishments that employed a total of 86,775 employees. This was a marked expansion of 3.9% compared to 2008. The number is expected to increase steadily with the ramp up of the two integrated resorts in Singapore at Marina Bay and Sentosa Island. To-date, many food business establishments such as restaurants, food caterers and fast food outlets dedicated to providing F&B services have been established island wide. The manpower demand statistics published by the Ministry of Manpower indicated that there is a high demand for trained workers and entrepreneurs in the F&B sector.

The new Diploma in Food & Beverage Business aims to train diploma graduates with a balance of business, food preparation and culinary art knowledge for the F&B service and catering industry.  This unique breed of graduates equipped with skills in both business and F&B product would provide the F&B industry with the next generation of supervisors and managers. With these skill sets, graduates could eventually become future leaders and entrepreneurs in the F&B Sector. In short, not only would this course prepare students for self employment in a quick-to-market, low entry barrier industry, the training would make the graduates a sought after group for the F&B sector.
