Course Introduction

There is a demand for a new breed of IT professionals who are well-equipped to apply IT, at the enterprise level and in a total business environment, to enhance global competitiveness and business agility. The Diploma in Business Enterprise IT is closely aligned with Singapore’s Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015) Master Plan and aimed at nurturing IT professionals, empowering them with the skills to specialise in enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions and database technologies. Students will learn to streamline, integrate and manage processes across business functions in a company, from human resources, finance, operations to risk management. Leveraging the benefits of enterprise solutions and state-of-the-art business analytics, students will be well prepared to develop and customise enterprise-level systems and services that fulfill the company’s business strategy.

The Diploma in Business Enterprise IT equips students with technical expertise that will allow them to create value for businesses and contribute to the many multinational corporations based in Singapore such as FedEx, Google, HSBC, Nokia, Pfizer, Shell and Sony, all of which are key players in their respective industries. They will be involved in improving businesses and their strategies by leveraging the power of IT to grow future business.

The students will have a strong foundation in IT and a good understanding of business processes to implement Enterprise IT solutions to enhance a company’s business competitiveness and agility. They will have opportunities to master and implement commercial packages for enterprise solutions in key functional areas of business enterprises such as finance, operations management and human capital management. In addition, they will also develop capability in the following focus areas:

• Business Applications Design and Development

• Internet Technologies and Service-Oriented Architecture

• Business Processes Management and Integration

• Enterprise Solutions and Services

Through participation in hands-on projects and case studies, they learn to harness enterprise technology, integrating it with domain expertise and business processes knowledge to enhance the competitiveness and agility of companies in the face of dynamic changes.

• a full-time industry project to sharpen their technical knowledge, business acumen and project management skills

• local or overseas industrial attachment at companies or R&D centres to gain real-life work experience and industry exposure

Course Aims

The course aims to develop and equip students with:

• a comprehensive understanding of the critical technologies and building blocks in IT and software tools;

• the expertise to manage and integrate processes across business functions (e.g. human resource, finance, operations and risk management) so as to help organisations improve their business competitiveness and agility;

• the ability to harness enterprise technologies like resource planning systems and database technologies to develop effective enterprise IT solutions and services for businesses;

• essential life skills in creative and critical thinking, team building, self-directed learning, effective communication and enterprising spirit.

Duration: 3 academic years on a full-time basis.
