The Diploma in Financial Informatics prepares students for a brilliant career in the financial sector, by offering an integrated and well-balanced approach which combines both IT and financial knowledge to empower product and service innovation. Students will learn to define business requirements in financial services, analyse financial data, leverage the innovative use of IT and translate them into implementable solutions. Upon graduation, students will be well-placed to contribute to the growing financial sector, because IT plays a critical role in shaping the way banks and financial institutions operate and transform their businesses with new services and products. Students will learn a wide spectrum of IT technologies and business domain knowledge relevant to the financial services industry. They will develop the capability to integrate these two areas of expertise and design innovative IT systems and solutions, with the following focus areas:

  • Accounting and Finance

  • Financial Products and Services

  • Internet and Banking Technology

  • Business Analytics and Enterprise Solutions

Through participation in hands-on projects and case studies, students acquire a good understanding of how banks and financial institutions operate and how IT is innovatively harnessed to create new services. The flexibility of the course allows students to pursue specialisation in either Banking & Financial Services or Banking and Financial Applications to increase their attractiveness to prospective employers in the financial services industry.

 

The value-added IT++ learning experience for students is enhanced through:

  • a full-time industry project to sharpen their technical knowledge, business acumen and project management skills;

  • local or overseas industrial attachment at companies or R&D centres to gain real-life work experience and industry exposure;

Course Aims

Diploma in Financial Informatics

 

The course aims to develop students and equip them with:

  • a good spectrum of IT skills and business domain knowledge relevant to the financial services industry;

  • the expertise to define business requirements in financial services and translate them into implementable IT solutions;

  • best practices in applications and integration of IT and financial knowledge, enhanced through modules such as business intelligence and analytics, business process management, banking technology, enterprise solutions and project work

  • essential life skills in creative & critical thinking, team building, self-directed learning, effective communication and enterprising spirit.

Duration: Three academic years on a full-time basis.
