Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) becomes an integral part of organisations’ defence against evolving cyber threats. CSOC provides protection against the cyber threats by monitoring and responding malicious activities continuously before and after the various network entry points, using advanced data analytic and correlation capabilities.

On the 10 May 2016, Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and StarHub signed a MOU to establish NYP-StarHub Cyber Security Operations Centre at school of information technology, NYP. The centre is an integral part of learning platforms that aims to strengthen cyber security capabilities of NYP staff and students in CSOC operations and incident response skills. The centre’s activities include knowledge sharing, project collaboration, research and development and student internships to StarHub. The centre also aims to serve as a platform to promote the use of best-in-breed CSOC technologies and processes as well as to provide knowledge sharing with industry through seminars and courses.

Mr Dennis Ang, the Director of school of information technology, said “This collaboration is about bringing industry expertise to prepare our students learn real-life cyber security operations from a telco perspective. Organizations are increasingly using SOC to protect their digital assets and beefing up their incidence respond capabilities to address cyber intrusions in a timely manner. Students will be able to learn CSOC skills including incidence identification, escalation and response practically using state of the art tools and realistic data provided by the partners”.

“As the gateway to the Internet, telcos like StarHub have a strategic role in a wired-up and well-connected Singapore, especially as we push ahead to become a Smart Nation. One of Smart Nation’s biggest challenges come from increasingly frequent and sophisticated cyber threats. To address this, we are committed to developing cyber security talents and telco-centric security services,” said Lee Shih Yen, Vice President, Cyber Security, StarHub. “We are pleased to partner Nanyang Polytechnic in grooming new cyber security specialists to ensure a sustainable pool of talent is available to meet the demand of the market.”
