Our Year Three students from the School of Information Technology did us proud by winning the Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media (LHL IDM) Smart Nation Award at this year’s MOE Special Awards 2022.

Building on their interest in blockchain, the team developed an electronic voting system that could satisfy rigorous requirements including authenticating voters, ensuring secrecy and overcoming hacking and cyberattacks.

The team comprising Tey Jia Ying (Diploma in Business Intelligence & Analytics), Edison Choo and Derrick Png (both from Diploma in Information Technology) said: “While the ideation process was not easy, the unique and interesting nature of blockchain technology spurred us to continue our efforts. We are continuing to develop the project in hopes that this can be brought to the market one day.”

Established in 2017, the prestigious LHL IDM Smart Nation Award is presented to students whose IDM projects fulfil Singapore’s Smart Nation vision to harness technology to improve the lives of citizens. Five projects were selected for the Award this year.
