Lollipops that double as darts, and cookie packets that remind us of home - these were some of the innovative designs by our School of Design & Media (SDM) students that won awards at the Singapore Packaging Star Awards 2022. Out of eight winners in the Student Sales & Display category, six were students from the Diploma in Visual Communication. They went on to receive Certificates of Recognition in the affiliated global International Packaging Design Student Competition 2022. With the directive to design packaging that relieves stress and sparks joy, our students embarked on a 15-week creative journey to develop and bring their innovations to life. From beating the exam fever to making mask-wearing more fun, they drew inspiration from common shared experiences to create their winning pieces.

Shares Jamie Lim, one of the winners: “I faced some challenges developing the actual product, but after countless experiments and consultations with Ms Chevady Chang (SDM senior lecturer), I was happy with the outcome! I am thankful for this opportunity as I got to see how various companies tackle sustainability, a hot topic, through their works.”

The Singapore Packaging Star Awards is organised by the Packaging Council of Singapore. It recognises and rewards excellence in packaging, in areas of construction and materials usage, design, innovation technology and environmental consciousness. The award ceremony was held on 02 Sep and was graced by Senior Minister of State Dr Amy Khor.
